The Pen Pal Project began in 2006 as a means to provide a venue for relationship building between First Nations communities and their neighbours. In developing these relationships the youth get to exchange their interests and culture through letter writing to their neighbouring community. They write about their hobbies, families, traditions, and cultures. Within this cultural exchange a sharing happens that can counter divide and misunderstanding. An important element of the Pen Pal Project involves the pen pals meeting face to face in a year end gathering. This is important as typically the youth come to meet face to face during integration into High School or through the competition of sport. The year end gathering is a time to celebrate their connection, have fun together, and continue their learning. If you have any questions please contact us.
